Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi talks tough on outstanding disciplinary cases

In reply to a legislative question by Dr NG Campbell of the Democratic Alliance (DA), Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi has announced progress made on disciplinary cases against three employees who have been placed on suspension following disciplinary actions taken against them by the department.

Two employees were charged with alleged theft while the third one was charged with contravening Section 76(4) (c) relating to Practice Note No. 8 of 2007/08 which regulates the threshold values by approving contracts to 22 companies, contravening Section 45(a) to (e) of the PFMA as well as gross dishonesty.

The two employees charged with theft are drivers based within the VIP and Pool Services Unit at g-FleeT Management. The drivers were suspended on 10 June 2014. Charges against them are currently being formulated by the unit’s line manager with the assistance of Human Resources. The matter was in court and erroneously withdrawn by the prosecutor, however g-Fleet Management has requested that the matter be reinstituted.

The third employee based at the department’s Supply Chain Management was suspended on 22 August 2013 and charges against her were instituted on 24 October 2013. The matter has been referred to the Bargaining Council as an external disciplinary hearing and the department has no control over it. The matter is set to be finalised on the 15 to 16 October 2014.
