Gauteng MEC for Infrastructure Development, Ms Qedani Mahlangu has confirmed an incident with the Block C lift servicing the nurse’s residence at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital today.
“A newly commissioned lift malfunctioned; two members of staff and a student nurse are under medical observation and have received counselling. I will continue to monitor the situation closely. I deeply regret this incident and apologise to all those involved and their families. This afternoon, I formed a task team to urgently uncover the root cause of this incident. The lift will undergo testing by an independent lift inspector tomorrow and recommendations for remediation will be implemented speedily”, said MEC Mahlangu.
