Gauteng Legislature gives feedback on request to investigate alleged violation of Code of Conduct for its members

Feedback on the request to investigate an alleged violation of the Code of Conduct for Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

In accordance with Rule 277 (2) of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature Standing Rules, the Integrity Commissioner initiates, receives, investigates, adjudicate and recommend over matters of breach of Conflict of Interests Code and Disclosure Framework (Code) for Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature referred to him/her. 

Following the receipt of your complaint regarding an alleged violation of the Code against the Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature (Hon. Mekgwe), Member of the Executive for the Department of Health (Hon. Nkomo-Ralehoko) and the Chairperson of the Health and Wellness Committee (Hon. Phaladi-Digamela) and the subsequent meeting that I had with yourself on the 28th of June 2023.

I thoroughly reviewed your concerns and undertook a comprehensive assessment of the information provided, I found that the concerns raised pertain to labour-related matters and I do not have authority to directly address or resolve 
such issues.

Therefore, I regret to inform you that I found no evidence to support the allegation of a violation of the Code and therefore my office will not be investigating this matter.

I understand that this outcome may not align with your expectation, and I empathize with any frustration or disappointment you may be experiencing.

This matter has been referred to the Chairperson of the Health and Wellness Committee who will work diligently towards a resolution.
