Gauteng Legislature extends condolences following the passing of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Speaker Honourable Ntombi Mekgwe has on behalf of the Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs) extended sincere condolences to family of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the Inkatha Freedom Party and the people of KwaZulu Natal following the passing of the longest serving Member of Parliament.

Hon. Mekgwe and the entire family of the Gauteng Legislature learned with sadness the passing of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the Traditional Prime Minister of the Zulu King, the Founding Father and President Emeritus of the Inkatha Freedom Party.

In him the nation has lost a seasoned leader and great contributor to the history of both the country’s democracy and the freedom that South Africans enjoy today. Prince Buthelezi was a true statesman and contributed immensely in shaping the body politics that characterize the Constitutional democracy that South Africa embodies.

His entire life was given to serving the people of South Africa and KwaZulu Natal – and he now joins the many beloved history makers and founding fathers of our land, whose memory and legacy will forever remain for generations to see.

With his continuous service in the National Parliament from 1994 until his untimely death on the 09th September 2023, we shall remember him for his teachings, discipline and counsel to both the young and old.

Our hearts go out to the Zulu Royal Household, the Buthelezi family, Inkatha Freedom Party, and the country as a whole, during this time of mourning. May you be comforted by the richness and profound meaning of the life he lived, and the many lives that he impacted through his work.
