Gauteng labour inspectors slapped UNISA with a prohibition notice

The Department of Labour in Gauteng has served a prohibition notice to University of South Africa (UNISA), Sunnyside campus in Mears street, Pretoria, today (Friday) due to Non-compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act, Act 85 of 1993. A prohibition notice was issued to the employer for a non-compliant for not providing fresh air supply to employees according to the environmental regulations for workplaces of the OHS Act.

The employer was served with the prohibition notice and informed that the notice will be revoked on Compliance.

The prohibition notice prevents the employer and employees to use the air conditioning system until it has serviced and repaired so that fresh air will be supplied. Failure to do so will ensure that the matter will be handed to the Public Prosecutor for what action he may deem necessary.
