The Gauteng Provincial Government will embark on road-shows to thank Gauteng residents for being good hosts during 2010 FIFA World Cup. The move is also aimed at encouraging residents to keep the South African flag flying high as part of Fly the Flag campaign.
The roadshows, taking place in all the regions of the province, will culminate with the Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, honouring volunteers, legends and Safsa members who contributed to the success of the World Cup. The premier will pay tribute to these important stakeholders prior to the MTN 8 semi final encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 11 September 2010.
“We thank all the people of Gauteng for the role they played during the World Cup. And in keeping with the sprit on the World Cup, let us continue to raise the flag high and support local football,” said MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Nelisiwe Moerane.
Entertainment will include performances by the 999 stable.
5 000 flags will be distributed at the stadium. However, residents are also urged to bring their own.
