Gauteng Health on suspension of senior health official

The Gauteng Department of Health has suspended a senior official following allegations of misconduct.

Mr Abey Marokoane is a Chief Director: Risk Management and Internal Control in the department. He was arrested on 27 November 2014 and appeared at the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria on Friday, 28 November 2014. Mr Marokoane is currently out on bail.

the department was officially notified by the South African Police Service (SAPS) about the probe. “We will fully cooperate with the police in their investigation as the charges are serious.” said Gauteng MEC for Health Ms Qedani Mahlangu. “We have decided to suspend Mr Marokoane, while we conduct a thorough internal investigation.”
