Gauteng Health Department suspends officials suspected to be part of a recruitment scam
Gauteng Health MEC Hope Papo has commended the management of Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane for their swift action upon receiving complains about allegations that some officials were contravening hospital recruitment procedures.
Management suspended 17 officials who worked in different sections of the hospital after they were suspected of selling jobs and appointing their family members and friends, pending investigations.
“The department will not tolerate any form of misconduct by any staff member and those who are found to have been involved in this scam will be dealt with accordingly,” said MEC Papo.
The MEC has also encouraged members of the community to report any official who solicit money in exchange for any job opportunity as the department does not sell jobs.
“Complaints must be directed to heads of our public health institutions or submitted through our 24 hour call centre which is 0860 011 000. Those who are found guilty of these acts will be kicked out of the system and if they are also found to be criminally liable for their actions, the law must take its course,” he said.
The MEC reiterated that incompetency, negligence and misconduct have no place in any Gauteng public health facility.
