Gauteng Health Department insists on apology over false story of stolen twins

The Gauteng Health Department is insisting that Ngoanabokone Maleswene must publicly apologise for spreading false information that a set of twins were kidnapped from Dr George Mukhari.

Ms Maleswene's allegations went viral last week after she had approached newspapers and the Democratic Alliance with her false allegations.

Following this unfortunate reporting, the department launched an investigation into the matter. The Hospital records in the neonatal ward, the lodger-mother care unit, the kangaroo-mother unit and the security log book from the alleged date of delivery to the date of discharge were thoroughly checked. The intense investigation carried by the Hospital revealed that no such patient of twin babies was at the hospital or discharged as alleged by the mother.

The mother of the child surfaced this week and claimed that the allegations were untrue and her babies were not stolen as reported by Maleswene who is an aunt to her boyfriend. Despite problems that people might be having in their relationships it is highly unacceptable to create a public panic by making unfounded and damaging allegations such as this.

Acts like these tarnish the image of the department and that of the hospital concerned and it should be condemned at all cost. The department is calling on Ms Maleswene to make public apology, failure to do so the department will be compelled to take legal steps against her.
