Gauteng government congratulates 2013 Comrades winner Claude Moshiywa

The Gauteng Provincial Government has congratulated Gauteng-born Comrades marathon winner Claude Moshiywa. He finished the race in 5 hours 32 minutes and 8 seconds on Sunday in KwaZulu-Natal.

Moshiywa is the first South African to win the hugely contested race from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in 21 years; the last South African man to win the "up run" race was Jetman Msutu in 1992.

"We are elated to have one of our own win this year's marathon. This proves that Gauteng is indeed the home of champions. Moshiywa is not only the pride of the home of champions, but that of the country," said Mokonyane.

The Premier further stated that "Moshiywa, who came ninth in last year's race and third in 2011, was a good example of what one can achieve through hard work and perseverance."

Mokonyane also congratulated all the runners that took part in the in the annual race.
