The Executive Council of the Gauteng Provincial Government, led by Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, held a special cabinet meeting earlier today - Sunday, 21 July 2013 to reflect on the tragic death of MEC Nkosiphendule Kolisile, his protector Constable Tshepo Jobo and his driver, Sergeant Tebogo Motsie.
The Cabinet meeting resolved to hold a joint memorial service for all three deceased. The details of the memorial service will be announced on Monday, 22 July.
Members of the Executive Council, also paid their respects at the home of Constable Jobo in Protea Glen, Soweto. Premier Mokonyane will lead a delegation to visit Sergeant Motsie's family in Qwa Qwa on Monday, 22 July.
MEC Kolisile will be afforded a Provincial Official funeral assigned to a serving Member of the Executive Council, with elements of Police Ceremonial Honours. The two police officials, who passed away in the line of duty, will receive official funerals in line with the South African Police Services standards.
The families have since identified the remains and funeral arrangements are still being finalised.
The Gauteng Cabinet wishes to reiterate that they will take collective responsibility for the Economic Development portfolio to allow for proper mourning and will not hasten to appoint an acting MEC or replacement.
Condolence books will be available at the family home, the Department of Economic Development and the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. On the day of the memorial service a condolence book will also be available at the City Hall.
