Gauteng Economic Development MEC Nkosiphendule Kolisile encourages public participation in Liquor Regulations consultation process

The Gauteng Department of Economic Development has noted public concerns on some aspects of the proposed draft liquor regulations. We urge all stakeholders to make use of the public consultation process to comment on the proposed regulations.

Public consultation is a critical aspect of a caring government and a principle that provincial government takes very seriously. We will carefully and genuinely consider the views of the public in finalising draft regulations.

The department would like to further reiterate that the proposed regulations are not meant to stifle economic activities related to liquor trade.

We believe that a balance must be struck between the pressing need to sustain and create employment in the province as well as the imperative to ensure the responsible trade of liquor. The public has until 25 February 2013 to make submissions.
