Gauteng Economic Development holds a Stakeholder Consultative Seminar on the Draft Gauteng Liquor Policy

The Department of Economic Development will tomorrow hold a Stakeholder Consultative Seminar on the Draft Gauteng Liquor Policy. The seminar is part of a series of provincial public and stakeholder engagements that are aimed at getting inputs on the policy.

These public engagements follow the tabling of the policy at the legislature last month by MEC Ms Qedani Mahlangu and will culminate in a Liquor Stakeholder Indaba early next month.

The purpose of the policy is to:

  • facilitate responsible attitudes towards the production, distribution, promotion, marketing, advertising, sale and consumption of liquor
  • ensure that appropriate measures are in place to reduce the harm caused by the consumption of liquor, including reducing per capita consumption, and
  • facilitate the entry and empowerment of new entrants in the liquor industry.

The Consultative Seminar will take place as follows:
Venue: Turbine Hall, Newtown, Johannesburg
Date: Friday, 26 August 2011
Time: 09H00 to 13H00
