Gauteng Department of Local Government and Housing launches the Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme

Local Government and Housing MEC Ntombi Mekgwe, launched the (FLISP) Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme during a public meeting in Alexandra on Friday 23 November 2012.

‘’It is an important day in that as government we are continuing to demonstrate that we care about our people, that we will work tirelessly to restore their dignity through giving them access to human settlement opportunities. This launch of FLISP is a demonstration of our ability to respond to housing challenges in Gauteng’’ said Mekgwe.

The Financed Linked Individual Subsidy Programme provides down payment assistance to qualifying households who have secured mortgage finance to acquire an existing house or a vacant residential serviced stand linked to a house construction contract. It caters for people who earn between R3501 to R15 000 00 per month and these are the people who do not qualify for RDP houses because of their income.

The objective of this programme is to reduce the initial mortage loan amount to render the monthly loan repayment installments affordable over the loan payment term with a housing subsidy of between R10 000 to R87 000. One can also obtain vacant serviced residential stand which are linked to house-building contracts with home builders registered with the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC).

“We have partnered with Gauteng housing department in this programme in a quest to increase access to housing for many citizens. This is a unique programme in that it helps in raising home loan when buying a house.’’ said Lawrence Lehabe on behalf of NHFC CEO Samson Moraba.

The programme will be rolled out in various sites in Gauteng province, which include Cosmo City ( Randburg), Botlhabela (Alexandra), Fleurhof ( Joburg Region), Nellmapuis (Tshwane Region), Danville (Tshwane),Jabulani (Joburg Region) and Lady Selourne( Tshwane Region).

“I would like to say we are inviting qualifying South Africans who previously could not afford to have a home to use this wonderful opportunity. This is time to enjoy the fruits of democracy. I would also like to thank the banks for working with us so that we can increase access to housing for our people”, said MEC Mekgwe in conclusion.
