Gauteng Department of Education suspends two educators

The head of the Gauteng Department of Education has suspended two educators, one at Topaz High School and the other at Lens Public School, in Lenasia. These are precautionary suspensions while we investigate their possible role in an attempt to forcibly remove a principal from office.

The department strongly condemns attempts to remove principals from office by people who claim to represent parents or learners. If anyone has any grievance against an educator or principal, there are procedures that need to be followed to raise such concerns. Resorting to force and disrupting learning will not be tolerated and suspected persons will be dealt with procedurally.

We are working with all relevant stakeholders to amicably and peacefully resolve concerns in a sustainable manner. We call on parents to support these measures. The department is committed to ensuring that learners leave our institutions with the values, knowledge, skills and qualifications that will give them the best chances of success in adult life.
