The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has intervened to ensure that approximately 450 Matriculants in Bekkersdal are able to write their exams without any disruptions next week.
The department will on a temporary basis, place these learners in a special residential camp outside the community, where they will be able to write their exams and receive study tuition.
The necessity for continuing with this arrangement will be evaluated on a weekly basis.
The department appeals to community leaders on all sides in Bekkersdal, to assist the department in stabilising schools in the area and ensuring that the future of young learners is not placed in jeopardy.
