The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) would like to offer its sincere condolences to the family of the learner who died yesterday in Meadowlands. GDE officials visited the family of the learner yesterday evening to convey our sympathies.
From what we could gather, the child was run over by a truck outside school premises. The learner is a student at Anchor High School in Meadowlands and they had just left Thutolore Secondary when this incident occurred. It is alleged this happened when these learners were on their way to Protea Magistrate Court. The department is investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
We are aware of the situation of some learners supporting their fellow learners outside court and we are addressing it.
