A Gauteng bus owner and his accomplice were arrested for bribing the Head of the Delareyville Traffic Station yesterday. This followed the success of about 14 unroadworthy buses that were discontinued and impounded during the operation that was held by the North West Traffic Authorities in Delareyville on Sunday.
It is reported that the arrested bus owner called the head of the station and offered him a whopping amount of R60 000 to release his six buses on Sunday night.
The station head said the two called him in the morning as they were waiting for him at the traffic station.
Immediately after receiving their call, the station head called the SAPS special crime unit. “When I arrive at the station the two gentlemen gave me R7 000 in cash with the list of their buses and promised to give me the remaining amount after I release the buses.”
The two were arrested and the police found an amount worth R30 000 with them. They will appear at the Delareyville Magistrate on Wednesday Morning with charges of fraud and bribery.
