Gauteng to announce Sport Awards finalists

It's all systems go for the Gauteng Sport Awards as the province prepares to announce this year's finalists in 13 of the 14 categories.

This will include the prestigious Sport Personality of the Year category, which is voted for by the public.

The announcement is scheduled for tomorrow, 7 June 2012 at Emperors Palace following a successful nominations period that started from 17th of April and closed on May 25.

Kaizer Chiefs' player Siphiwe Tshabalala won the prestigious sportsman of the year award last year for his performance at the club and his good service to South Africa's national team.

Gauteng Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Lebogang Maile said this year's event was expected to be bigger than last year's. "We have just concluded the adjudication process and are ready to make the announcement for this year's finalists on 7 June. We're making all efforts to ensure an even bigger event with the 2012 awards, and to make certain that our sport heroes are afforded the towering honor they deserve", said Maile.

The Awards other categories such as the Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Sport Team of the Year, Disabled Sportswoman of the Year, Disabled Sportsman of the Year and Disabled Sports Team of the Year.

There are also the Most Promising Athlete of the Year, Most Promising Team of the year, Coach of the Year, Technical Official of Year, Administrator of the Year and the Sport Journalist of the year.
