Crude oil prices
During the current fuel price review period (29 June 2012 to 26 July 2012), the average Brent crude oil prices, compared to the previous fuel price review period increased by USD 6.0 per barrel from USD 95.0 per barrel to USD 101.0 per barrel.
Rand Dollar exchange rate
During the current fuel price review period the Rand strengthened against the US Dollar, thereby contributed in the decrease in the fuel price of about 13c/l
International product prices
During the current fuel price review period, the international product prices of petrol increased by 35.0 c/l, diesel by 30.0 c/l and IP by 24.0 c/l.
Slate account balance
In line with the Self-Adjusting Slate Levy Mechanism Rules, the Slate levy on petrol and diesel will therefore be decreased from 4.38 c/l to 0.0c/l with effect from 1 August 2012.
Based on the fuel price information at the Department of Energy's disposal, the following fuel price increases will be implemented with effect from 1 August 2012, namely:
- Petrol ( all grades): 22.0 c/l;
- Diesel (0.05% sulphur): 14.62 c/l;
- Diesel (0.005% sulphur): 15.62c/l;
- Illuminating paraffin (wholesale): 15c/l;
- Single Maximum National Retail Price (SMNRP): 20.0 c/l; and
- Maximum Refinery Gate Price for LPGas: 52c/kg.
