Free State Transport impounds minibus taxis and buses

Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport has impounded minibus taxis and buses

Free State Department of Police, Roads and Transport has impounded 95 minibus taxis and 55 buses this past weekend for violating permits and vehicle fitness regulations. Most of the buses and minibus taxis were impounded on Major Provincial roads and national roads such as N1, N3 and N8.

Our law enforcement officers also discontinued at least 14 vehicles because they were not road worthy. Some of the impounded buses belong to major bus operators in the country and others to private individuals.

We will intensify our law enforcement operations in the province as we approach this coming weekend because we are expecting more traffic on our roads due to school reopening next week and most people will be returning to home after holidays.

Our major focus will be on driver’s behaviour that most frequently causes accidents on our roads. Our law enforcement officers will also focus on motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol, who speed, drive reckless and those who drive unroadworthy vehicles.

The Department of Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State will continue to pursue public Transport and drivers in general to ensure that unroadworthy vehicles and reckless drivers are removed permanently from our roads.
