Free State in Pru-Health Triathlon Final World Championship

The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr DAM Kgothule, would like
to send his well wishes to the two (2) athletes from the Free State who will compete in the Pru-Health Triathlon Final World Championship this month.

Anton Swanepoel and Nicholas Newman are Para Tri Athletes from the Free State. They are both currently training at the Department’s Free State Sport Science Institute (FSSSI) under the guidance of Jan Wahl (Coach) and Morten Ridgard (Elite Sport Scientist). They will be competing in the 2013 Pru-Health Triathlon Final World Championships from 11 to  14 September 2013 in London. This is a Para Triathlon Ranking Event for Rio 2016.

Anton Swanepoel will compete in the TRI 1 classification (750m swim, 20km hand cycle and 5km racing wheel chair) on 13 September at 16:30. (TR1 includes paraplegic, quadriplegic, polio, double amputee and disabilities that prevent the safe use of a conventional bicycle).

Nicholas Newman will compete in the TRI 3 classification (750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run) on 13 September. (TR3 includes athletes with multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, double leg amputee or paralysis in multiple limbs).

Both these athletes are currently ranked under the Top 10 in the world for their
