Premier ES Magashule and Free State Members of the Executive Council wish to join millions of condolences to the Sisulu family.
Mama Albertina Sisulu was not just a mother and a grandparent to the Sisulu’s but also a mother to the nation. Your loss is our loss.
In her early ages, mama Sisulu helped to shape the future of South Africa. Mama Sisulu and other courageous women led many campaigns like the Defiance Campaigns to ensure South African Pass Laws are abolished.
Whilst the late Walter Sisulu and other leaders were in jail, mama Sisulu kept the fires burning. She was a hope and a symbole of unity to the progressive movement under difficult conditions.
She led United Democratic Movement (UDF) as President while raising her children as a single parent because the husband was thrown into prison by the apartheid regime.
Mama Sisulu’s house became a home for many comrades who left their townships to seek hiding place in Johannesburg because of police harassment in their townships.
Mama Albertina Nontsikelelo Sisulu represented the best values for humanity and best servant to the country.
Mama Sisulu will be greatly missed by many South Africans, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the rest of the world.
On behalf of the Free State Government, we wish to say “lala ngoxolo Xhamela”. Rest in peace mother of the nation.
