Free State Police, Roads and Transport on speeding

Free State speedsters nabbed

A driver was arrested after he was caught driving his Nissan Qashqai at 175 km/h in a 120 km/h zone yesterday afternoon on the N1 Glen about 40 km outside Bloemfontein.  The man claimed that he was in a hurry to take his sick father to the hospital in Bloemfontein. On the same stretch of the road Free State Traffic officers trapped another speedster doing 180 km/h in his Toyota Corolla. Both speedsters were taken to Glen Police Station where they were charged with negligence and reckless driving.  They are expected to appear in court today.

The MEC for Police, Roads and Transport, Honourable Butana Komphela welcomed the arrests of these two motorists as it will send strong message to would be speedsters that such driving behaviour will not be tolerated in the province. Our traffic officers will continue to enforce law on our roads throughout the year.

We would like to appeal to motorists to obey road rules at all times. Those who choose not adhere to road rules and regulations will face the full might of the law.
