The Motlalepula Ntsala Municipal football Tournament is played by Secondary Schools in the Setsoto Local Municipality in honor of Motlalepula Ntsala, a young athlete from Boitumelo Secondary School, who passed on during a football match at Ficksburg stadium in June 2010.
Schools were participating in the ”My 2010 Schools Adventure Programme” to mobilise and increase awareness amongst the communities and schools to support the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup hosted in the country.
At the funeral an undertaking was made by the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, the Department of Education and the Setsoto Local Municipality that a football tournament carrying the name Motlalepula Ntsala will be staged on an annual basis for the same age group of learners.
The tournament is used to encourage the youth to participate in Sport and Recreation. The ongoing challenge of gangsterism and alcohol abuse in the area of Meqheleng by young people is a concern for the community, so the tournament will create an opportunity for those learners not participating in the Schools Championships for U/17’s to participate with other municipalities.
The tournament will facilitate district and provincial participation at other championships across the province and country. The Motlalepula Ntsala Municipal Football finals for 2015 were also the U/19 tournament for Setsoto Municipality as required by the NSRP.
The tournament was coordinated by the Local Football Association and SASFA Ficksburg under the guidance of the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and the Department of Education.
Local eliminations were played as follows:
Clocolan: 23 May 2015
Ficksburg: 16 May 2015
Marquard: 20 June 2015
Senekal: 20 June 2015
Culminating in the finals that were played on the 27 June 2015.

“It has long been the goal of the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation to not only host sport tournaments in the communities, but to help fight the ongoing battle against Gangsterism and Crime. Sport is an ideal tool to accomplish this goal, and to do it as tribute to a young man that has made sport his passion is an honor and privilege. May our young people find the passion and drive to put effort into sport and in so doing defeat the dark powers of gangs and criminal activities.” Stated MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mrs Mathabo Leeto.
