Free State MEC for Police, Roads and Transport Butana Komphela condemns Virginia mob justice

The MEC for Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State, Honourable Butana Komphela, condemned the mob killing of a man in Stilte Park, Meloding in Virginia. The MEC said strong action should be taken against those who took part in this barbaric act.

On Tuesday evening a group of people killed a man in Stilte Park. He was stoned and stabbed repeatedly and had multiple stab wounds all over his body that was inflicted with sharp objects. He died on the scene.

Police has so far arrested six suspects for public violence and one for possession of dangerous weapon during tracing operation to get the suspects that might have been involved in the killing of a man in Stilte Park in Meloding. Police are still in the process of linking them with the murder of the Stilte Park Man.

The MEC said that barbaric and inhuman acts such as stoning, stabbing and killing in the manner of these vigilant groups undermine our hard fought democracy and human rights. The MEC reminds all South Africans that the SA Police Service (SAPS) and Courts of Law are the only legitimate structures that should be allowed to deal with criminals.

He urged all South Africans to use these existing structures to deal with crime and not to take the law into their own hands.
