The Department of Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Honourable Butana Komphela for his re-appointment as the Member of Executive Council responsible for Department of Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State.
The department would also like to welcome him to the department and believes he will continue with the good work he has been doing in the past.
MEC Butana Komphela was first appointed MEC for Police, Roads and in June 2011. Before his appointment as Member of Executive Council, he was one of the longest serving members of the parliament and a hard working committee chairperson.
During his 10 years in Parliament, he headed the Portfolio Committees on Water Affairs and Forestry, and Sport and Recreation. MEC Komphela served Parliament with incredible dedication, excellence and commitment.
In his past term as MEC for the Department of Police, Roads and Transport, MEC Komphela initiated the Crime Prevention Strategy; a culmination of different stakeholders involvement and the first ever of its kind; and have successfully brought down the crime statistics in the Province.
During his leadership in the department, he ensured that the department excels in the provision of safe roads and have improved the conditions our roads. He will be spending about R3 billion to further ensure that the roads are safe and that this province is a destination for investment and economic growth. He will be employing 150 trainee Traffic Officers to improve road safety in the Province.
We wish him well in his re-appointment as MEC, and thank him for the great service he rendered to the people of Free State and South Africa as a whole during his three year long tenure as Member of Executive Council responsible for Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State.
We believe that the MEC will continue to bring change in the lives of Free Staters by ensuring a road networks which connects towns and rural areas, supports economic growth and contributes to job creation.
We are confident that MEC Butana Komphela will live up to the citizen’s expectation to ensure delivery of quality services to the people as he has done in the past and will also ensure that Crime level are drastically reduced and people of the Free State are and feel safe at all times.
