Free State Arts and Culture celebrates Heritage Day

Department celebrated Heritage Day

For the past five years; the Free State Provincial Government has celebrated this day in Ficksburg but continues to align the celebrations with the national theme.

The event continued to attract thousands people from South Africa and Lesotho with performances ranging from music and dance by different artists across the spectrum.

This year, the department celebrated Heritage Day under the theme: “Our Indigenous Knowledge, Our Heritage: Towards the identification, promotion and preservation of South Africa’s heritage”

Through Heritage Day celebrations, the department aims to promote heritage landscape transformation of the Free State Province, reaffirm the significance of our heritage as part of our national identity, and promote unity and diversity among all of the South African society.

To ensure that this event is inclusive and it succeeds, the department partnered with the following stakeholders:

1. Free State House of Traditional Leaders.
2. Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality.
3. Setsoto Local Municipality
4. Provincial Heritage Resources Authority (FSPHRA)
5. Traditional Healers
6. Cultural Formations
7. Religious Groups and many more

On 24 September, the department joined the masses of our people as they recognised and celebrated the cultural wealth of our nation through Heritage Day.
