Free media transform societies by enlightening the decision making process with information plays an important role in our young democracy in empowering individuals to take control of their destinies, North West Premier Mme Thandi
Modise said in a media statement issued on World Freedom Media Day.
In calling for the relaunch of North West Press Club, Premier Modise emphasised that media freedom plays a crucial role in the transformation of society by reshaping its political, economic and social developmental agenda.
Modise committed that her administration will strive to increase its support for community media to ensure that previously marginalised urban and rural communities and the unemployed access information about that will assist them to meet their developmental needs.
The provincial government is supporting the initiative towards the launch of North West Provincial Community Television Station.
