The Gauteng Department of Education invites learners who qualify for supplementary exams to register for free tuition that will be offered in selected subjects starting from end of January. The last day to register for supplementary exams is 24 January 2011. Supplementary exams will be written in February and March 2011.
Learners who wish to attend extra classes in Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Science, Life Sciences, Accounting, Geography, History, Business Studies can register at the point where they register for supplementary exams.
The classes will run from 29 January to 20 February 2011 every Saturday and Sunday between 8:00 to 16:00 in over 40 centres throughout Gauteng.
The purpose of the extra lessons is to focus on techniques and skills to answer typical exam questions, to revise key content areas of the curriculum, to focus on exam writing and exam management skills, and to assist learners so that they can improve on their 2010 results.
The classes will be run by highly competent specialist educators. The list of centres is on the website (www.gpg.education.gov.za) or interested learners can phone 0800 00 5174 for a list of venues closest to where they stay and for more information.
In addition to this programme, the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre has set up a weekly programme where learners can study for these subjects daily with the help of subject specialists. This will take place from Monday 31 January to Friday 18 February, and will run from 9:00 to 14:00. The venue will be Sci-Bono Discovery centre in Newtown.
