Jurry Sehunoe (34), the self-confessed fraud physiotherapist guilty of defrauding the Department of Labour’s (DoL) Compensation Fund will have to wait a short while to know his fate after his case was today (August 28) postponed in the Pretoria Commercial Crime Court.
Sehunoe’s matter was postponed after a social worker who was said to have fallen ill failed to submit a pre-sentencing report. Sehunone’s matter was postponed to September 27.
The fraud physio is accused of defrauding Department of Labour 2,1 million. His bail of R3 000 has been extended. Sehunoe has pleaded guilty to 15 counts of fraud and 26 counts of money laundering. The fraudster is accused of siphoning ill-gotten gains by submitting fraudulent claims for unperformed work, with the assistance of internal staff.
Advocate Keitumetsi Mogale told the court that she had on numerous occasions tried to contact the social worker to no avail. Mogale said she was going to contact the superiors of the concerned social worker to request that the matter be referred to an alternative social worker.
Sehunoe was originally charged with two co-defendants Maxwell Ramaphosa and Samuel Mfeleng - former employees of Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund.
Ramaphosa and Mfeleng’s matter has since been transferred to the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in a separation of trial following Sehunoe’s guilty plea. The duo has pleaded not guilty.
The Compensation Fund is a public entity of the Department of Labour. The Fund covers workers against occupational injuries.
