Four die and passenger critically injured in N4 head on collision in North West

Four people died and a passenger was critically injured in a head on collision involving two cars on the N4 Bakwena Platinum Highway between Rustenburg and Brits in the North West Province on Friday night .

The accident occurred near the Buffelspoort offramp at around 9:00 pm. It is alleged that the driver of Toyota Corolla which was driving from Rustenburg towards Brits had encroached into the lane of a Toyota bakkie which was driving in the opposite direction after overtaking a truck that had joined the highway from the offramp.

All male occupants of the Toyota Corolla who were in their 30’s died on impact. The 36 year old male driver of the bakkie died at the scene of the accident while his male passenger also in his 30’s had lost consciousness was rushed by paramedics to Job Shimankana Tabane Provincial hospital in a critical condition.

Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide, reckless and or negligent driving.

Acting MEC for the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Dr. Magome Masike wishes to convey his condolences to the families of the road users who lost their loved ones in the accident and wish the injured passenger a speedy recovery.

MEC Masike appeals to motorists to overtake only when it is safe to do so.
