Former President Thabo Mbeki will no longer be able to attend the State of the Nation Address.
Some time after the media briefing which Parliament held this morning, Mr Mbeki’s office informed Parliament that Mr Mbeki is leading an African Union High-level Implementation Panel on Sudan and will be conducting negotiations between South and North Sudan in Addis Ababa. The date of the negotiations – from 9 to 14 February - was only confirmed yesterday, Mr Mbeki’s office said.
