Fleet management holds campaign on subsidised vehicles

“It has been discovered that the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) employees are not well informed about subsidised vehicles, hence Fleet management found it is imperative to organize information sharing sessions for all 23 districts including Head Office,” said Zolile Ngaba, Director of Assets Management.

Addressing the head office employees on behalf of the fleet management on the 20 March 2009, Ngaba said the national Department of Transport deemed it necessary to establish this scheme in order to minimize the costs incurred in the running of the Government Garage (GG) cars, which results from misuse of government vehicles. He emphasised that subsidised vehicles are working tools that could enable officials to reach all the schools in the province, irrespective of the terrains.

Senior Transport Officer, Nomachina Mzamo who also attended the meeting said that in order to qualify for a subsidised vehicle, one must be a government employee who works 70 percent of their time out of the office (fieldworker) and be able to travel at least 1 750 kilometre per month. She further explained that salary pay slips, proof of residence, appointment letter and obviously driver’s license are among the necessities to get subsidised vehicles. Officials in the scheme have to ensure that all their trips are authorised and the log books are filled-in and submitted monthly.

Mzamo said that about 500 applications for subsidised vehicles have already been submitted this year. She requested officials who are interested in subsidised vehicles not to hesitate contacting her office on the following:
