Five suspects arrested in possession of diamonds - Bellville South

On Tuesday (5 June 2012) around 16h45, Bellville South police members arrested five males in possession of nine unpolished diamonds in Bellville South.

The arrest follows after an illegal transaction between two Congolese nationals and three South African nationals turned sour at premises in Modderdam Road. It is believed that the three South African males then robbed the two Congolese men of the diamonds and tried to flee in a vehicle. Their vehicle then got stuck and the Congolese men got hold of them. South African Police Service (SAPS) were alerted about the incident and later arrested all five males involved in this illegal transaction.

The suspects will appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (8 June2012) on charges of robbery and illegal possession of unpolished diamonds.

The value of the unpolished diamonds is yet to be determined.
