Five people were killed while four others were seriously injured in a head on collision allegedly caused by a tyre burst on the Lichtenburg-Koster road on Saturday afternoon.
A Nissan Sentra is alleged to have swerved into the right hand lane and collided with a Honda Ballade after its left rear tyre burst. Four passengers who were travelling in the vehicle from Rustenburg to Madibogo and one passenger from the Honda Ballade which was travelling from Lichtenburg towards Koster died at the scene of the accident.
The injured passengers, three from the Honda Ballade and one from the Nissan Sentra, were taken by paramedics to the General De la Rey Hospital in Lichtenburg.
Meanwhile, North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa wishes to convey his condolences to families that have lost their loved ones in the accident and wish the injured passengers a speedy recovery. Yawa appeals to road users to exercise caution as they drive on provincial roads as traffic is expected to pick up as from Sunday afternoon as people travel back home on conclusion of their holidays.
