Five learners from Ngaka Modiri Molema district have escaped road safety debate elimination ahead of the 4th annual Provincial Road Safety Debate competition to be held in two weeks' time. The five learner team who won Wednesday’s debate are from Zeerust Combined School (two), Nkabetse Thuto (two) and Motswedi Secondary School (one) and will represent the district at the provincial debate.
The winning team received K53 learners Licence manuals and electronic calculators sponsored by Bakwena Toll and certificates of participation from the provincial Department of Public Safety.
About 40 learners from various high schools representing Mahikeng (10),Ditsobotla (10), Ramotshere Moiloa (10) and Ratlou (five) and Tswaing Local Municipalities participated in the district eliminations which lasted for hours.
The debaters were motivated by Provincial Road Safety Ambassador, Puseletso Molaaphene, Motswedi High School Grade 12 learners and member of the 2009 National Road Safety Championship to enrich their presentations through in-depth research.
Meanwhile, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District will be hosting its district eliminations on Friday, 6 August at Tlhatlhelelo Training Centre in Jouberton.
The Road Safety Debate is an annual programme initiative of the Road Traffic Management Corporation (TRMC) to instill a culture of road safety among Grade 10 and 11, to teach learners to take responsibilities of road safety challenges that affect their communities and to develop and enhance the learner’s presentation skills by means of practical presentation sessions.
