Five Jules High learners arrested for drugs and alcohol

Five pupils from Jules High School were today arrested for possession of drugs and alcohol during a joint crime awareness program between Community Safety, Department of Education, South African Police Service and Independent Complaints Directorate. Three boys were found in possession of dagga, one girl aged 14 years old with a 200ml Klipdrift still sealed, and the other girl with ten tablets of drugs. The police are investigating what type of drug found in possession of the girl. The girl found in possession of drugs, earlier claimed that the tablets are for headache, however upon investigation by police, found to be drugs.

Due to the fact that the pupils are minors, the Station Commissioner outline the process to involve notifying their parents, as well as appearing before probation officer who will assess corrective measures to take.

The raid coincided with the 16 days of activism in which the Department of Community Safety wanted to have a special focus on learners. MEC Mazibuko expressed her dismay as school environment should be used as a centre for learning and teaching.

It is through indulgence in such substances that pupils end up committing other offences. ‘We are going to act decisively to root out this act of criminality within the school environment in line with school safety program’ said MEC Mazibuko.
