Five family members were killed at Mbongolwane area over the weekend. Mbongolwane police made a break through when they arrested five people suspected to be involved in the killing. The arrested suspects age between 19 and 36 are due to appear in the Eshowe Magistrate Court tomorrow, 30 July 2013 facing five counts of murder charges.
On Saturday, 27 July 2013 at approximately 20h00 a woman, Thulisile Mnyango (50) and her four children, Cebile Mnyango (21), Lungelo Mnyango (17), Mlamuli Mnyango (10), and Qiniso (2) were at their homestead at Mbongolwane area when they were attacked by group of unknown people. It is alleged that the suspects set alight four houses and the five family members who were in one of the houses were burnt to death.
It is suspected that a petrol bomb was used during the attack. The motive of the killing is unknown at the stage and the Mbongolwane police opened five counts of murder cases. Through investigation the police made a breakthrough yesterday morning when they arrested five suspects believe to be involved in the attack.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lt General Mammonye Ngobeni has expressed a shock and disappointment of the killing of five family members, saying the incident raised serious questions about the collapse of morals and lack of respect in our society. She commended police officers for their swift arrest of the alleged perpetrators who will be facing the might of law. We are confident that more arrests will be made soon, she said.
