Five people died in a road accident involving a car and a donkey cart on the N18 Mahikeng-Vryburg road in the North West province on Sunday night.
It is alleged that an Opel Kadet hit the donkey cart from the rear at about 8:20 pm as the donkey cart had no reflectors. Three children aged five, two of whom were female, an eighteen year old girl and 30 year old male all of whom were passengers on the donkey cart that was from Madibogo died on the spot. The accident occurred between Setlagole and Stella, about 25 kilometers from Stella.
The driver of the Opel Kadet which was driving from Stella towards Vryburg and the driver of the donkey cart were slightly injured.
Both drivers were slightly injured.
North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison received report of the horrible road accident with shock and wishes to express her condolences to the families of those killed in the accident.
Meanwhile, MEC Mohono advises motorists who are driving in the wet weather to exercise caution and to drive with their headlights on to enhance visibility.
