Fire at Dihlabeng Hospital successfully contained

A fire broke out at the kitchen of the Dihlabeng Regional Hospital at around 5h30 this morning. 103 patients on the 4th floor of the hospital were successfully evacuated to the casualty area of the hospital. No injuries were sustained.

The fire originated from the kitchen but there was not much structural damage except for kitchen equipment. The cause of the fire is still unknown and we are expecting a detailed report from the fire brigade soon.

All patients were evacuated and accommodated in casualty. No one was treated for smoke inhalation and there were no injuries as a result of the fire. Patients have been moved back to their wards. A clean-up is currently underway to ensure that the kitchen is fully operational as soon as possible.

A contingency plan is in place to ensure patients receive meals throughout the day. The kitchen at nearby Phekolong Hospital and sub-kitchens at Dihlabeng hospital are being used. We apologise for any inconvenience to patients but are satisfied that the response to this potential crisis was rapid and efficient.
