Fight against crime is everyone’s business – says Maloyi

A joint effort between the community and law enforcement agencies is critical in combating crime in the province. These is according to the North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Nono Maloyi during his  engagement with more than 600 Community Policing Forum (CPF) members and Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC’s) on Public Safety from Municipalities across the province at the Matlosana Recreational Hall.

MEC Maloyi said there’s a need to create a harmonious working relationship between governments, all relevant stakeholders including every citizen of the province.

“We need to join forces in fighting crime and that means every citizen must be involved” said Maloyi.

MEC Maloyi said the North West must be a ‘no go area’ for criminals. “When a criminal approaches the province and sees a board that says ‘welcome to North West’, that person must make a u-turn.”

“You don’t need to be a policeman to arrest a criminal and this is the fight which all of us must win,” said Maloyi.

Community Policing Board Chairperson, Leonard Brown, requested MMC’s to attend CPF meetings within their wards. “Your attendance in these meetings is very critical as we need the involvement of every citizen and your participation will play a significant role.”

He committed the forum to work tirelessly with government and all stakeholders. “We will harness our efforts to ensure that we reach our objective of defeating crime,” said Leonard Brown.

MEC Maloyi will continue to engage with Provincial justice Crime Prevention and Security Cluster and Members of Mayoral Council (MMC’s) for Public Safety from all municipalities across the province to deal with issues of crime and public violence in the province.
