Fifty days to world Cup: South Africa's ready

In less than 50 days, a whistle will blow and the first ever 2010 FIFA World Cup to be held on African soil will begin. After five years of waiting in anticipation, the biggest soccer spectacle will kick off with our own Bafana-Bafana taking on Mexico in what will surely be a memorable event in our sporting history.

"Today we mark the 50 days to the 2010 FIFA World Cup with pride. We have come a long way as a country which was previously perceived as 'third world' which basically meant that we were seen as incapable of hosting events such as this one.

"Look at us now; we've seen developments take place throughout the country. Our infrastructure is among the best; our stadiums have been lauded by everyone that has seen them. We are ready in all aspects of the word," says Yershen Pillay, Deputy Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).

The NYDA in partnership with the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism is currently hosting the Limpopo Business Exhibition and Entrepreneurship Development conference in Polokwane.

"We are doing our bit as a development entity in ensuring that our youth gets a slice of the pie when the world cup finally hits our shores and beyond. This conference has seen hundreds of young and aspiring entrepreneurs youth development practitioners, business support organisations, research organisations and big business discuss how young entrepreneurs can take advantage of opportunities in Limpopo as the province is home to one of the World Cup host cities," adds Pillay.
