The taxi which was from Madikwe Township to Rustenburg hit the stray kudu which had unexpectedly leaped across the road at around 9h30. The animal had jumped the fence of the nearby game farm at around 9h30.

Emergency and fire personnel had to use jaws of life to free the woman, who was fatally injured, from the wreckage. All other passengers, including the driver, sustained minor injuries and were rushed to Swartruggens provincial hospital for medical attention by paramedics.

The North West Department of Public Safety is implementing a ranger programme for domestic stray animals in nearby Phela and Tlokweng villages as part of the Easter Arrive Alive campaign. Ten villages across the province are part of the road safety strategy aimed at reducing accidents involving stray animals.
