Further Education Training Band and Extra Curricular Programmes, a directorate in the Eastern Cape Department of Education (ECDoE) formed a Sporting Committee for civil servants recently at the Head Office in Zwelitsha, hoping to release stress through sport.
With the main aim to uplift and distress all workers the goal is to do purely recreational activities such as; tug of war, chess, singing, sack races, poetry and talent shows. These recreational activities will be competitive between directorates and districts.
Promoting a healthy lifestyle in collaboration with the directorate Wellness, they aim to create fresh minds in a fresh body, pursuing team work amongst the workers and reduce stress at the same time.
Public Relations officer (PRO) for the committee, Daniel Sotyato says, “We want everybody to participate, and we would appreciate it, if anybody can come to us with ideas.”
“At a time where workers feel no appreciation, people are dying of stress and our department is getting managed from national (Basic Education Education), we would like the Superintendent General (SG) and the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) to participate in this initiative.”
He ended off by saying, “We don’t want outsiders to rescue this department, we want to do it within, through sport,” concluded Sotyato.
