The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Petterson together with the Office of the Premier of the Free State, Mr Ace Magashule congratulated the winners of the Female Farmer of the Year on Saturday at the evening gala dinner in Bloemfontein. The two were joined by Ms Zodwa Manase, Chairperson of the board of the platinum sponsor, Total South Africa.
The prizes were awarded in the following categories:
* Top producer for household consumption, backyard garden
Ms Nkhensane Susan Maswanganye from Limpopo
* Top producer household consumption, communal garden
Tswelelang Pele Bomme Vegetable project from the Free State province
* Top producer for informal markets
Ms Maria Malan from the Northern Cape province
* Top Producer for National Markets prize
Ms Nonie Moliehi Mokose from Gauteng province
* The export market prize
Lema Intensive Farming Venture of the Free State province, this project also scooped the Female Farmer of the Year 2009.
This was the last Female Farmer of the Year where the spotlight was only on agriculture; next year the new competition will include forestry and fisheries.
