Farm attack victim appreciates MEC Yawa’s compassionate visit
North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa has assured 59 years old
Buffelshoek farmer, Daniel Benjamin Nortje that police are doing everything in their power to arrest those responsible for the shooting incident in which he was allegedly shot while sleeping in his bedroom on Saturday night. MEC Yawa visited Nortje at Rietfontein farm between Potchefstroom and Parys on Wednesday afternoon.
Nortje was allegedly shot by unknown assailant/s through his bedroom window with a shotgun and sustained gunshot wounds on his backside. He was with his 71 year old father, Cornelius Nortje on the farm at the time of the alleged attack. Nothing was stolen from the farm and there was no break-in.
Nortje who was discharged from hospital on Tuesday expressed his appreciation for the compassionate visit and the quick response of the police who were patrolling the area during the alleged attack and were at the scene within minutes of receiving a distress call from his neighbours.
MEC Yawa who was accompanied by SAPS Provincial Deputy Commissioner, William Mpembe, Director Danie Le Granje,the Station commander and members of the investigating team was impressed with Nortje’s comment on the quick response of the police.
Yawa encouraged Nortje who is not affiliated to any farmers union to take part in safety programmes with regard to rural safety. He said that sector policing and the establishment of local operational and intelligence structure as part of the rural safety plan strategies which was faced in when Kommandos were faced out were being revitalised.
Police investigations into the alleged farm attack are continuing.
