Thousands of South Africans have already expressed their shock and sadness at the loss of this outstanding journalist and promoter of our democracy. In adding our voices to this wave of feeling, we wish to make particular mention of the role which Vuyo played in profiling Parliament.
Vuyo understood the importance of the national legislature as a key institution of democracy and the importance of reporting on what it does.
He demonstrated this awareness in his regular shows on radio and television and particularly on his coverage over many years of Parliament’s hosting of the State of the Nation Address. In covering this premier occasion of state, Vuyo also profiled the people who bring life to the day – Parliament’s choir, the many public participants who have become part of the state ceremony since our democracy, the “ordinary” people of our country who make ours an extraordinary society.
His presence will be missed but not forgotten and we hope that your knowledge of this fact will bring some comfort to you in this time of deep sadness and loss.
