The Gauteng Department of Health would like to request the families and relatives of victims of the bus accident which claimed the lives of nineteen people to collect their deceased’s personal belongings at Sebokeng mortuary.
The deceased’s belongings were moved from Diepkloof to Sebokeng mortuary to make it easy for families to identify and collect them.
The Department’s Forensic Pathology Unit has also completed conducting the autopsies for the 19 victims.
“I would like to thank pathologists for the job well done, for the excellent manner in managing this tragic incident as well as for completing the autopsies quickly,” said MEC Mekgwe.
Families can collect the autopsies reports from the investigating officers handling the case.
In this unfortunate incident, a bus carrying 74 passengers tumbled into a stream along the R59 near Meyerton on Monday morning, killing 19 people including the bus driver and leaving 55 people injured.
Thirteen of the injured victims were taken to Sebokeng hospital, three patients are critical and in ICU and high care respectively and the other seven patients are in stable condition. One was discharged and the other two were transferred to other hospitals.
Two of the victims were airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital where one is currently admitted in ICU and the other one is in stable condition.
The department sympathises with families who lost their loved ones and wishes those in hospital a speedy recovery.
