During the 1st phase of a military convoy movement from Potchefstroom in the North West Province to the SA Army Combat Training Centre at Lohatlha in the Northern Cape an accident occurred on the N12 route in the early hours of the morning of 12 November 2011, 10 km from Stilfontein.
A civilian truck collided with a Rooikat Armoured Car, the Rooikat overturned. Two SANDF soldiers passed away as result of the accident. Two other SANDF members, as well as the driver of the civilian truck, sustained minor injuries.
The names of the deceased will be released after the next of kin have been notified. The South African Police Service is investigating the accident. A Board of Inquiry will be convened.
